Scores of plastic wrapped pencil shaped parcels, containing cocaine that were intended to be shipped out of Guyana, were discovered by ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri on Monday (yesterday) morning.
A total of 2.304 kilogrammes of the narcotics was found stashed inside of the bones of salted fish that were placed in 280 pieces of the plastic parcels intended for export.
According to a press statement from the CANU, six (6) individuals are currently in custody pending investigations.
The large quantity of salted fish was destined for Miami, United States of America (USA), but was intercepted at a Cargo Shed at the CJIA.
Investigations into the matter are in progress.
