‘Snakey’ gets bail on gun, ammo charges

Davenand Dwarka, a 29-year-old labourer, was granted bail in the sum of $200,000 after he was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Dwarka of Lot 24 Henrietta, Essequibo Coast, was hauled before Magistrate Esther Sam in the Suddie Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

It is alleged that on January 22, 2023, while on the Henrietta Public Road, Essequibo Coast, he had a 9mm pistol in his possession when he was not the holder of a firearm licence.

It is further alleged that on the same day and time, he had three 9mm rounds of ammunition in his possession when he was not a firearm holder.

The Court Prosecutor objected to bail, but it was granted by Magistrate Sam, who adjourned the matter to February 8, 2023. She also transferred the case to the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court for report.

HGP Nightly News had reported that on the day in question, ranks were on mobile patrol on the Henrietta Public Road when they saw Dwarka in the vicinity of Jaigobin Hotel with an object projecting from the waist of his pants

Dwarka ran into a parking lot, and the ranks gave chase, where he fell into an area with mud.

As the law enforcement officials attempted to grab him, the firearm fell into the mud, and during this time, he reportedly jumped into a nearby trench.

Later that day, he was captured by his aunt’s house at Henrietta but not without attempting to escape

According to the Police, Dwarka is known to them and is currently before the Court on a narcotics charge.
