40-year-old Melroy Simpson was on Thursday sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for unlawfully killing his reputed wife Carmelita Jones back in 2012. Simpson admitted to the court that on the day of the incident, he turned his reputed wife into a human torch six years ago at their ‘B’ Field Sophia home. The confessed killer was sentenced by Justice James Bovell- Drakes after pleading guilty to the lesser count manslaughter. Simpson opted to plead guilty to the lesser offence manslaughter after consulting with his Attorney-at-Law. His lawyer, however, requested that a probation report be presented before his client is sentenced. The deceased, 25 year-old Carmelita Jones, was badly burnt about her body by Simpson after her reputed husband, had thrown a flammable liquid on her while she was holding a lamp that was a light at the time on September 18, 2012. The police say that the couple had a heated argument over a pack of milk which Simpson believed that was purchased by another man. Jones was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she died on September, 26, 2012 after receiving severe burns on her neck, hands, back, abdomen, and right foot
