An autopsy performed on the body of 26-year-old Mariam Edwards revealed that the woman died as a result of ‘Manual Strangulation Compounded by Blunt Trauma to the Head’.
The post mortem examination was conducted on Monday, June 13, 2022 by Govt. Pathologist, Dr. Nehaul Singh.
Mariam Edwards of Lethem was allegedly murdered by 25-year-old Keron Hope sometime between June 8 and June 9, 2022 at the Kumung Kumung Backdam, Puruni River, where she was employed as a cook.
Keron Hope of Middle Street, Buxton, East Coast Demerara who was subsequently arrested by police ranks in the Division admitted to murdering the woman. The woman’s body was recovered after Hope took police ranks to where he had dumped the body, a short distance away from the mining camp where the woman was employed.
Hope was today (June 14, 2022) charged with the murder of Mariam Edwards.
The accused appeared before Magistrate, Crystal Lambert at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court where the charge was read to him.
He was not required to plea and was remanded to prison.
The matter was adjourned until 2022/06/30.
