SWAT PICK UP HEADED TO AIRPORT TO ESCORT CRICKETERS COLLIDED WITH OVERTAKING CAR

A Guyana Police Force SWAT unit motor pick up PAB 3120 en route to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport to escort cricketers who were arriving in the country for a match, collided with a motor van on Monday morning.

The accident occurred around 11:30hrs along the Soesdyke Public Road, East Bank Demerara.

According to Police Headquarters the accident involved PAB 3120 that was being driven by Mike Millington, 29-year-old of Rose Hall Town Corentyne Berbice, a Police Constable attached to SWAT and motor van GWW 7777. The Toyota Voxy is owned and was driven at the time by Jiang Chen, a 28-year-old resident of Timehri, East Bank Demerara.

“The pickup was proceeding south along the eastern side of the Soesdyke public road, East Bank Demerara, at a fast rate of speed, when the driver overtook a motor car (number unknown) proceeding infront and heading in the same direction, and in doing so collided head-on with motorvan GWW 7777 which was proceeding north along the western side of the said road.” Police headquarters noted in a press statement.

As a result of the collision both vehicles ended up on the western side of the road, and received extensive damage. The driver of the Voxy, Jiang Cheng, received injuries to his head and about the body. Jiang Cheng was transferred to the Georgetown public hospital corporation, where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty and admitted a patient in the male surgical ward suffering from injuries to his head and about the body. His condition is listed as stable. One of the SWAT ranks also received minor injuries.

A breathalyser test was conducted on the drivers and revealed no trace of alcohol.
