Taxi driver shot three times with daughter in car by armed bandit

A 41-year-old taxi driver was shot thrice and robbed of his cellular phone while his daughter was inside of his vehicle by a bandit who entered the car under the pretense of being a customer along the East Coast Demerara (ECD) roadway.

The injured man has been identified as Raulvin Maynard called “Raulo” of Melanie Damishana, ECD, who is currently hospitalized with gunshot wounds to his thigh, arm and wrist.

HGP Nightly News understands that the incident occurred around 16:00h on Wednesday (yesterday) at Quamina Road, Beterverwagting (BV), ECD.

According to a police statement, Maynard was with his daughter when he “dropped off a customer” in BV and while proceeding in the Southern direction the suspect hailed his cab.

The man then entered the car and requested to be taken to the Railway Embankment and while Maynard was in the process of turning his vehicle towards that direction, the perpetrator whipped out a handgun and demanded that Maynard stop driving, hand over his cash and exit the vehicle.

“The victim then held unto the gun and the suspect shot him in his right upper thigh. The suspect took away the victim’s cellular phone and demanded that he exit the car. The victim once again held unto the suspect’s gun and he was shot twice ; once to his left upper arm and once to his left wrist.”

HGP Nightly News understands that the bandit robbed Maynard of one (1) BLU Cellular phone valued at $8,000 and quickly made good his escape.

Maynard was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPH) by public spirited citizens where he was admitted a patient in a stable condition.

Investigations are ongoing.
