Teen remanded to Juvenile Holding Centre for murder of 10-year-old boy

A male teenager was on Friday (today) remanded to the Sophia Juvenile Holding Centre, Georgetown, after being charged for the murder of 10-year-old Anthony Cort of “C” Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown on March 11, 2021.

The 16-year-old suspect was hauled to the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court, East Coast Demerara (ECD), where he was charged with “murder in the course of furtherance of a felony” under Section 100 (1) (C) (i) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act Chapter 8:01.

He was not required to plead to the charge and was subsequently remanded to the Sophia Juvenile Holding Centre. His matter was postponed to May 12, 2021.

The now dead 10-year-old boy was a student of the St Ambrose Primary School and was killed during the execution of a robbery in Sophia, Greater Georgetown.

Upto press time, there was no other arrest in connection with the crime, as investigations continue.
