Teen suffers head, body injuries after being struck off bicycle by car


-driver parked vehicle, fled scene after committing crime 


A 14-year-old pedal cyclist is now suffering from head injuries among other wounds about his body after he was struck off his bicycle by a car (PZZ #2676) whose driver fled the scene and is currently on the run from the cops.


The serious accident occurred around 18:50h on Sunday at La Parfaite Harmonie Public Road, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
HGP Nightly News understands that the teen hails from Rect-Door-Zee, WBD, while the motorcar driver is said to be a St. Stephen’s Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, resident.


According to a police statement, the vehicle (PZZ #2676) was proceeding South on the La Parfaite Harmonie Public Road when he struck down the 14 year-old pedal cyclist, and as a result the cyclist fell onto the road where he received  injuries about his body.

“The driver of the  motorcar drove away and parked the said motorcar some distance away in the back of a yard in Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara and fled the area. The 14 year-old was picked up in a conscious state by public-spirited persons and police and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was seen and treated by a doctor on duty and admitted, suffering from a fractured left arm, head injuries, laceration to his right side shoulder and bruises about his body. He was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he remains a patient in the accident unit.”


The cops noted that the motor vehicle (PZZ #2676) was lodged to be examined by a licence and certifying officer.
Investigations are in progress.
