A total of three persons were injured in road accidents in New Amsterdam, Berbice and Brickdam, Georgetown on Sunday, July 18.
Police said the first accident occurred at 19:45 hours on the Republic Road in Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Berbice.
It involved motorcycle CK 1272, owned and driven by Mickal Benjamin, 37, of Tucber Park, New Amsterdam, Berbice and motorcycle CD 9860, owned and driven by Persaud Hussain, 41, of Health Centre Street Cumberland, East Canje Berbice.
According to police, motorcycle CK 1272 was proceeding north along the said road at an alleged normal rate of speed while motorcycle CD 9860 was proceeding south along the said road.
It was alleged by the driver of motorcycle CK 1272 that the driver of motor cycle CD 9860 pulled into his path, and upon seeing that, he pulled to avoid a collision but the rider of motor cycle CD 9860 pulled back into his path and collided with his motorcycle.
As a result of the collision, both drivers fell onto the road where they received injuries about their bodies.
They were picked up in a conscious condition by public-spirited citizens and taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where they were seen and examined by a doctor on duty, who treated the driver of motor cycle CK 1272 for a fractured right foot, and later admitted a patient.
The driver of motorcycle CD 9860 was treated for a fractured right leg and later sent away.
Investigations are in progress.
The second accident occurred at 23:45 hours at Brickdam and Winter Place.
It involved motorcar PNN 752, driven by Safraz Mohamed, 33, of 103 New Housing Scheme, Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara, and minibus PTT 9396, owned by the Guyana Police Force and attached to the special Constabulary Headquarters, and driven by Quacy Porter of 157 Melanie North, East Coast Demerara.
Enquiries disclosed that minibus PTT 9396 was proceeding west along the southern drive lane of Brickdam Public Road, while motorcar PNN 752 was proceeding south along the eastern drive lane of Winter Place.
On the approach of the intersection at Brickdam and Winter Place, the motorcar failed to comply with the directions given by the stop sign, which is lawfully placed at the head of Winter Place, and collided with minibus PTT 9396.
As a result of the collision, both vehicles were damaged and an occupant of the motorcar, whose name was given as Yismar Morin, 30, of Lot 874 Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo, received injuries and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was admitted for observation.
Notice of intended prosecution was served after a breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of motorcar PNN 752, who was above the prescribed limit with .095% BAC and 113% BAC, while the driver of minibus PTT 9396 was found with 0% BAC.
Investigations continue.
