“TONE DOWN THE RHETORIC AND PUT SOCIETY FIRST ”

The Guyana Trades Union Congress is working on a proposal to be sent to the government and the opposition, but GTC General Secretary Lincoln Lewis is tight-lipped on the contents. He spoke with Yaniss Abrams.

TUC General Secretary Lincoln Lewis says it would be a breach of protocol to disclose contents of the draft proposal, but it appears that the idea is to prompt the politicians to take steps to avoid taking the Guyanese society to the edge of a dangerous precipice. In the meantime, Mr. Lewis is urging politicians to “ Tone down the rhetoric and put society first.” He was referring to the political situation that has arisen following the Confidence vote on December 21 in the National Assembly.

The TUC said that both the Government and Opposition are challenged to navigate the process to preserve the national good and maintain stability. Mr. Lewis said that GTUC stands firmly with Article 106 (7) of the Constitution.
