An intelligence-led operation at a Republic Park, East Bank Demerara (EBD) property has unearthed over $18 million in marijuana, with two men arrested.
At about 17:30 h on Wednesday, a party of policemen went to the property and searched the storage room.
In the presence of the men, Police found four 45-gallon barrels which contained several bulky plastic bags wrapped with transparent scotch tape.
The parcels were examined and found to contain a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
The men were told of the suspicion, cautioned, and remained silent. Police observed motorcar PVV 810, parked on the bridge in front of the property and searched it.
They found a bulky plastic bag containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
Both men were escorted to the Diamond Police Station, where the narcotics found in the motorcar were weighed and amounted to 2900 grams.
The cannabis discovered in the storage room amounted to 48,750 grams. Overall, the narcotics found had a street value of $18.7 million. Both men remain in custody pending charges.
