Two young men that were travelling in a car late last night along the Bagostown Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD), are now dead after the vehicle collided with a concrete median and then careened into a concrete fence before it slammed into a utility pole.
Dead are Courtney Marcus, 19, of Lot 11 Peter’s Hall village, EBD, and 20-year-old Ronaldo Simmons of Lot 15 Azore Street, from the same village.
Meanwhile, the 29-year-old driver who hails from Mac David Street, Republic Park, EBD, is fighting for his life in the hospital. He is said to be suffering from a punctured right lung, broken ribs, and head injuries.
Reports are that around 21:25h yesterday, the vehicle (PVV 7570) was proceeding South along the Eastern drive lane at a fast rate of speed when the right side front of the vehicle collided with the concrete median which separates the roads.
As a result of the impact, the driver lost control of the vehicle which careened into a concrete fence situated on the Eastern side of the road and came to a halt after slamming into a utility pole.
Public spirited persons rushed to aid the three men trapped inside of the car and managed to pull them out. They were rushed to the East Bank Demerara Regional Hospital, commonly referred to as the “Diamond Diagnostic Centre”, each in an unconscious state and severe injuries about their bodies.
However, Marcus and Simmons were pronounced dead on arrival while the driver was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where is he continues the battle for his life.
