Two more men die from COVID-19 in Guyana, death toll climbs to 116

Two more males who were each diagnosed with the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Region One (Barima-Waini) lost the battles for their lives yesterday (Tuesday) pushing the overall total of COVID-19 related deaths in Guyana to 116.

According to the Ministry of Health, the two men, ages 78 and 80 years succumbed while receiving medical care at a Government health facility.

With these two latest COVID-19 fatalities, the number of deaths attributed to the pandemic since the beginning of October, has climbed to 34.

In a press release from the Health Ministry, there were expressions of condolences to the families of the two deceased persons and committments to making “every effort to provide all the necessary support during this difficult time and to render any assistance needed.”

The Ministry is also appealing to the general public to respect the confidentiality of the two deceased persons and their families, and to allow them to mourn their tragic loss in peace.

All Guyanese are reminded to observe the protocols of the COVID-19 EMERGENCY MEASURES (NO. 9), which are in effect until October 31st, 2020. This order emphasises:

  the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving one’s home;

  the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others;

  and the need for good hand-hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
