TWO MOTOR VESSELS COLLIDE IN ESSEQUIBO RIVER

  • One dead, another injured.

The Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) is investigating a motor vessel accident that occurred at Kartabo in the Essequibo River. Reports are that at approximately 19:00hrs yesterday, the two motor vessels collided at the aforementioned location. One person has since died as a result of the accident. The boats were captained by Lloyd Apple and Pamela Persaud respectively.

Persaud was said to have on board her uncle, who died after suffering injuries in the collision. Persaud too is said to have received injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the Bartica Hospital. Apple, the other motor vessel operator, is reportedly in police custody at the Bartica Police Station assisting with the investigations.
