Two of three murder accused prison escapees recaptured by Joint Services

Two (2) of the three (3) murder accused prisoners who escaped the confines of the Lusignan Holding Bay, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Tuesday, were recaptured by members of the Joint Services in Region Three ( Essequibo Islands- West Demerara).

According to Director of Prisons, Gladwin Samuels, “swift and tactical” action by members of the Joint Services, following information received, resulted in the recapture of Alex Matthias and Arnold Kennedy.

They are presently “back in custody” after being recaptured at the Zeelugt public road, East Bank Essequibo (EBE).

“The prisoners will aid in the ongoing investigation of the escape and they will also be processed for charges. Thanks to all those persons who helped to get the information about the escape out to the public, the support of the public for providing information on their location and the Joint Services members for conducting a clinical recapture,” Samuels added.

Meanwhile, the hunt continues for the third prison escapee, Mark Rafino.

Rafino who hails from Queenstown, Georgetown, was charged with the murder of a 43-year-old barber, Dale Troy Hercules.

Mattias of Pomona, Essequibo Coast was imprisoned for the murder of a 23-year-old labourer of Vilvoorden, Essequibo Coast which occurred on December 31, 2018, while Kennedy of Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), was charged with the murder of 20-year-old fisherman Alvin called “Chockoloo” which occurred on July 18, 2019.
