On Tuesday, the Ministry of Education officially commissioned the newly constructed Hopetown Practical Instruction Centre, valued at approximately US$1.9 million, as part of its broader effort to expand Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) across Guyana.

The state-of-the-art facility in Hopetown, Region Five, is designed to provide students with critical hands-on training in various practical disciplines, including carpentry, electrical installation, plumbing, welding, automotive technology, and more.

Minister of Education Priya Manickchand, in her address during the commissioning exercise, emphasized that the new center underscores the government’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the skillsets of young Guyanese, making them more competitive in the workforce and better equipped to contribute meaningfully to national development.

The Hopetown Practical Instruction Centre features modern classrooms, fully-equipped workshops, and advanced teaching technologies, creating a conducive environment for practical learning and skill-building for hundreds of students from Hopetown and surrounding communities.

Educators and community leaders at the commissioning applauded the investment, noting that it would open up new opportunities for employment, entrepreneurship, and economic advancement in Region Five.
