VETERAN POLITICIAN EUSI KWAYANA WANTS GECOM TO GET ITS HOUSE IN ORDER, SOON

By Antonio Dey | HGPTV Nightly Newsroom

A veteran politician is raising serious concerns about the Guyana Elections Commission’s (GECOM) readiness and intentions ahead of the 2025 General and Regional Elections—claiming the body is not serious about delivering free, fair, and credible elections to the people of Guyana.

Speaking candidly, the politician—whose name has not been publicly disclosed—accused GECOM of dragging its feet on key reforms, including the implementation of biometric voter verification and the cleansing of the voters’ list, despite repeated calls from civil society and political stakeholders.

“You can’t speak about transparency if you’re unwilling to act decisively,” the political figure said.

The remarks come amid intensifying national debate over election preparedness, with several opposition parties and watchdog groups demanding greater transparency, technical upgrades, and public education in the lead-up to election day.

GECOM has yet to issue a formal response to the criticism.
