Vreed-en-Hoop gas station robbed; employees beaten

The Sir Gas Station on New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara (WCD) was the scene of an armed robbery on Monday night in which two masked man with handguns assaulted two employees before escaping with an undisclosed cash, police said in a statement.

The incident occurred at about 9:45 p.m.

Police said at that time, the bandits, both wearing black clothing, ran into the gas station and held the female supervisor at gunpoint just after she was leaving the gas station, which was closed.

One of the bandits discharged a round in the air and then began to assault the security guard while the other bandit forced the supervisor back into the office and demanded that she hand over the keys to the drawer, which had an undisclosed amount of cash that he took.

An employee, who was at the back of the gas station during the robbery, was injured by one of the bandits who lashed him to the right side of the head with his weapon.

Police said the two bandits made their escape in a white car which was parked a short distance from the gas station.

The security guard and the injured employee were treated at the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
