Police and crime scene investigators descended on the Sunflower Hotel, located at South Road and Cummings Street, Georgetown, on Wednesday morning after the body of a woman was discovered inside one of the hotel rooms.

The deceased has been identified as Johanna Gomes. According to the hotel’s secretary, Coleen Cush, Gomes checked into the hotel on Monday and reportedly complained of feeling unwell.

“She checked in Monday and complained about feeling unwell,” Cush told reporters at the scene.

The hotel secretary explained that after Gomes did not respond to knocks at her room door on Wednesday morning, she became concerned, entered room five, and discovered Gomes’ lifeless body lying on the bed.

“When I went to check on her, that’s when I found her lying motionless on the bed,” Cush recounted.

Cush further noted that Gomes was a regular customer of the hotel and did not check in accompanied by anyone on this occasion.

A night-shift staff member at the Sunflower Hotel also told reporters that Gomes had mentioned plans to see a doctor on Wednesday, following her complaints of feeling unwell.

Meanwhile, reliable sources close to the investigation have informed Nightly News that the circumstances surrounding Gomes’ death do not appear suspicious. However, authorities are continuing their inquiries, pending a formal post-mortem examination to conclusively determine the cause of death.
