Antonio Dey reports that the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) initiative has officially activated a strategic action plan aimed at addressing gender-based violence and other forms of societal ills affecting women—both in Guyana and across the region.
The plan, which aligns with global peace and security frameworks, places a strong focus on empowerment, protection, and justice for women and girls, especially in vulnerable communities. It seeks to address domestic abuse, discrimination, and systemic inequality, while building stronger support systems for survivors.
“We’re creating safe spaces, not just in homes, but in policy and in practice,” one WPS official stated.
The initiative also involves collaboration with local government bodies, regional stakeholders, and civil society groups to implement preventive measures, legal reforms, and awareness campaigns across multiple sectors.
