A 31-year-old burglar was stabbed to death on Monday after he broke into a house at Chalmers Place and Brickdam, Stabroek, Georgetown.
Dead is Christopher Gonsalves, called ‘Whiteboy’ of Lot 291 Independence Boulevard, Georgetown. The incident occurred at about 23:30h.
The Police said that one of the suspects was at home watching television when he was alerted by a scream from the bedroom.
He went to investigate and saw Gonsalves in the kitchen with a knife. A scuffle ensued, and Gonsalves dealt the suspect a stab to his chest, causing him to collapse.
According to the next suspect, he returned home, and as he entered the house, he saw his colleague lying on the kitchen floor while the 31-year-old man stood over him with a knife.
He then armed himself with a knife, and Gonsalves rushed to him, and a scuffle ensued. During the scuffle, the 31-year-old intruder was stabbed to the upper right shoulder, lower left abdomen, and thrice to his back.
He collapsed on the kitchen floor, and the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) from the Alberttown Fire Service were summoned, and they pronounced Gonsalves dead.
The first suspect received injuries to his upper chest, left and right index finger and right arm, while the second suspect received injuries to his right knuckles.
They were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, seeking medical attention under Police guard.
In 2022, Gonsalves was sentenced to eight months in jail after he broke into an apartment and stole laptops and other items. He claimed he was drunk at the time.
