FAMILY SQUABBLE LEADS TO STABBING – VICTIM HOSPITALIZED IN SERIOUS CONDITION

A twenty-five (25) year old man from Scottsburg, Corriverton, Berbice is now recovering from injuries sustained as a result of a domestic dispute between he and his sister.

According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), the 25 year old car driver, Veeraj Singh and his twenty-five (25) year old sister, Jashoda Singh, also known as “Devya” were involved in an altercation which turned violent. 

According to reports, the brother and sister got into an altercation because the sister had been threatening the duo’s mother earlier in the day. According to the victim, he decided to confront his sister about her behavior towards their mother when she started to throw bottles at him whilst he retaliated by picking up a mop stick. A fight broke out between the pair.

It was at this point that another man, identified as Rajendra Bhagratti of No 58 Village, Corriverton Berbice, intervened and attacked Veeraj with a knife. The attack caused the victim to sustain injuries requiring him to be rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital where he was treated. He was later transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital for further treatment.

According to the GPF, the victim’s condition is listed as serious.

Both Jashoda Singh and Rajendra Bhagratti have been arrested and are in custody assisting with the ongoing investigation.
