Misinformation peddled on Facebook about persons collapsing, dying at GPHC

-hospital says social media post is “fabricated and fallacious”

In light of a post on social media (Facebook) being circulated about two (2) individuals visiting the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) to get tested for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19, then collapsing and dying, at the medical facility, the institution is denying such claims as fake news.

According to a press release from the GPHC today (Monday), it noted with concern the circulation of the post, purporting that today, the two persons collapsed and died there during their visit facility to be tested for the COVID-19.

“Further, the author of the post, claims that doctors at the GPHC suspected that the persons may have succumbed to COVID-19. We wish to assure the general public that no such incident occurred at the GPHC. The post is entirely fabricated and fallacious, and Management strongly condemns this mischievous and reckless action.”

The GPHC is appealing to the general public to desist from making false claims that peddle misinformation to induce panic.

“We urge persons to act responsibly and refrain from sharing this misleading post. Further, we take this opportunity to remind the public to pay strict adherence to the Ministry of Health’s guidelines; wear your masks correctly, wash or sanitize your hands frequently and practice physical distancing,” it added.
