Solider remanded over murder of colleague

Brian Morrison, 25, was on Friday remanded to prison for fatally shooting his colleague while on duty at Base Camp Stephenson, Timehri.

Morrison, a solider of Lot 841 Carine Housing Scheme, West Coast Demerara (WCD), was hauled before Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce in the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrate’s Court.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which stated that on June 12, 2023, at Base Camp Stephenson, Timehri, he murdered 24-year-old Tevon Daymon, a private in the Guyana Defence Force attached to 21 Artillery Company.

He was remanded to prison, and the matter was adjourned to July 31, 2023, for disclosure of statements.

HGP Nightly News had reported that Daymon was shot at about 04:45h on the day in question.

Reports are that the duo allegedly had an argument when Daymon reportedly removed the magazine from the rifle he was carrying and hit Morrison to his head, causing him to receive injuries before running away.

In retaliation, the accused, who was armed with an AK rifle, discharged 27 of his 30 rounds in Daymon’s direction, causing him to receive injuries and fall to the ground.

The victim was escorted to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where a doctor pronounced him dead.
