The Prime Minister has charged hundreds of teachers to educate the nation’s children. He was at the time speaking during the 84 th Graduation Exercises of the Cyril Potter College of Education. More in this report. Speaking to the newly minted teachers at the National Cultural Centre, Thursday morning, Prime Minister – Moses Nagamootoo told the over 400 teachers that in keeping with their own oath, they can educate a new generation.

This is where Guyana has poised itself into the future, the Prime Minister continued. With a knowledge-driven nation, the eyes of large countries could be focused on countries like Guyana, the Prime Minister surmised.

In December of 2017, when President David Granger addressed the 83rd Graduation of the college, he announced that resident trainee teachers moving forward will see a 66 percent increase in their stipend. Instead of $5,500, they are now receiving $9,160 while Non-resident trainees who were receiving $7,500 are now receiving $11,440. This year, no announcement of increases were made and Prime Minister Nagamootoo agrees that the trainees should get further increases but such must be premised on availability of monies.

Nevertheless, the teachers were encouraged to make the nation, their teachers and parents proud as they move forward.
