A 51-year-old woman identified as Nichola Jacobs is now dead after allegedly setting herself and her Bachelor’s Adventure, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home ablaze on Wednesday.

While details remain sketchy, it is believed that the woman reportedly committed the act due ongoing relationship issues.

The fatal fire began at about 13:00, police say.

According to police, the now deceased woman had lived alone in the house and was last seen alive on Wednesday at about 11:00 hrs.

Following reports of the fire, a tender from the Melanie Fire Service was deployed and was said to have put out the fire on the wooden building. The Fire Service said that based on their investigations, the building was not affixed with electricity.

The partial burnt remains of Nicola Jacobs was seen among the debris. The woman’s remains were escorted to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting PME.
